5 daily social media habits for real estate agents

Grit is a common word we use when describing successful people. The ability to stick with something, to see it through to the end, is a trait that’s admired among many. And in order for you to experience success with marketing your real estate business on social media, it’s a trait you really need to develop.

But where do you start?

Develop daily social media habits.

Since social media is a long game, sporadic posting and engagement efforts likely will not lead to the kind of business-building results you’re looking for.

So be different. Take the road less travelled, and make today the day you establish the habits you need to start getting more from social media!

Here’s how to get started…

1. Start a morning routine

For some, there’s nothing like a fresh cup of coffee and a Facebook news feed. For others, they’re still rubbing sleep out of their eyes at 9:00am! No matter which side you lean to, the morning is still a great time to get a jump on social.

Here’s a quick morning routine you can use as a starting point for building your own:

  1. Login to one social media account, and start doing the following:

  1. Before checking your feed or doing anything else, check your notifications tab.

  1. Respond to each comment or follower personally.

  1. Next, join some conversations.

  1. Now it’s time to check on how your posts are doing.

  1. Next, post an update.

  1. Move on to your next social media channel and repeat steps 1-6. Simple, right?

  1. Finally, plan your posts for the next day.

2. Post on-the-go

Planning your social media posts in advance is critical, but don’t forget to make room for posting unplanned, impromptu content as well. These on-the-go posts have the ability to capture life in real-time, helping your followers connect with you personally.

From meeting clients to grabbing a quick lunch, your day is filled with opportunities to tell your story on social media. Take a selfie with the owner of that local restaurant, shoot a quick video at your latest listing, or post an update about that new development that’s going in on the corner.

3. Share recap posts

Sometimes your day is pretty hectic. We get that. It may not always make sense for you to post on the fly…and sometimes even your planned posts may fall by the wayside.

No problem. Set a reminder to share a recap post at the end of the day instead.

Did you get a new listing?

Sell a home?

Learn something interesting about your target neighborhood?

The main point is that you share your story and engage with your followers on a consistent basis, not perfectly, but consistently.

4. Engage

Social media really should be social. Get in the habit of personally responding to comments on your posts. If someone likes or shares your content, follow up with them. And do this daily. You might even want to put an appointment in your calendar to make sure you engage with your followers.

5. Plan and automate

Planning is powerful. Some posts really benefit from thinking ahead about people you need to get in touch with, photos you need to take, places you need to visit, articles you could share, etc. So map out some future posts and place them on your calendar. Then schedule reminders to grab the content you need (photos, videos, articles, etc.) to create your posts, put them together, and start sharing.

Another way to maximize your impact on social is to start automating some of your posts.

For example, use Buffer or Hootsuite to automatically share some of your updates to social media. These could be posts where you’re sharing articles or you’ve planned out some posts that are not time-sensitive.

Another way to leverage automation in your real estate marketing plan is to use Paradym to automatically share your listings to social media and real estate portals. Click here to find out how Paradym can help simplify your posting schedule.

Bonus: use analytics

Ready to dive deeper? Take a look at the analytics sections of your social media platforms. You can find information there about who’s following you, when your followers are checking out your posts, and what they’re liking and sharing.

Use this information to your advantage! If your followers are most engaged with your content at 9:00pm, it only makes sense to start posting at that time. And if you notice that your audience really seems to like a certain kind of post, give them more! Experiment, review analytics for each platform you’re on, and learn how to best engage your audience.

Now you have a basic framework for posting and engaging with your followers on social media. Take the next step. Put these tips into action!
